This is great...by Aakash Nihalani. (via It's Nice That)

I've been reading a book titled "The Studio Reader", which is a collection of interviews and essays about various artists and their studios. Although they all have their own unique approach to their work space, the majority use their studios as a place to collect. It's like Michael Smith says in one chapter:

"I feel like a full-time clerk, a manager of my own lost-and-found, where old ideas get mixed in with new projects and creative flashes get mistaken for frantic searches for something I misplaced on my desk in the many piles of paper within arm's reach. I like to think I am deliberately playing bad clerk to my good clerk, providing amusement for some fly on the wall, as I transform into a real life Mr. Magoo, aimlessly groping at phantoms, climbing up and down ladders, and creating havoc with the many stacks of boxes filling my studio. Invention and delusion intertwine in my current creative process, with collating replacing automatism and filing likened to the application of a delicate glaze."

I was looking through some images of Sonia Delaunay's work. So geometric with bold colors, very innovative in her time! The top three images are of her costume and scenography designs for different ballets. Some were done in collaboration with her husband, painter Robert Delaunay. Read more about Sonia Delaunay here.

I'm back from my hiatus...things got way too crazy busy and my computer crashed. I hope to post more frequently now.
I just heard that architect Santiago Calatrava will be collaborating with the NY City Ballet this season. If you have the chance you should try and get tickets for these performances, I'm sure it'll be well worth it. Check out this link for more information and to see a short video on this project.

On a similar (architectural) note, I was going through my notebooks where I collect photos of patterns or color combinations I like and I came across these:

BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN

My friend just told me about this show by Livia Marin. It's called "Broken Things" and it's taking place right now in House of Propellers (a gallery in London), the show is up until November 7th. It all looks absolutely beautiful, I would love to see these pieces in person.
